About Kate

I’m Kate O’Phalen, Birth Justice Advocate and Pregnancy Coach.

Improving the way we give birth has been a passion of mine for almost a decade.

After a traumatic birth, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about how we make giving birth better in this country. I read books by birth justice experts, dove deep into scientific study data, went to support groups and therapy, and then I got my Masters in Public Administration so that I had the tools to make a difference.

I worked as the Reproductive Justice Fellow at the NYC Mayor’s Office Commission on Gender Equity, created a handbook for New York City’s pregnant people as a Colin Powell Fellow (check it out on the handbook page!), and serve as the Vice President of The International Cesarean Awareness Network.

I’ve taught grad students about birth justice and given talks to reproductive justice advocates about how VBAC and Cesarean are impacted by the fall of Roe v. Wade. I’ve had my thoughts about improving birth published by Ms. Magazine.

And now I want to help you.
